Guide to Marine Invasive Non-Native Species in Northern Ireland

Guide to Marine Invasive Non-Native Species in Northern Ireland

Celebrate Marine Week with us here at CEDaR with the release of our new and updated Guide to Marine Invasive Non-Native Species in Northern Ireland!

Following on from our Diver’s guide to invasive species, this new guide is a comprehensive list of invasive species that are found in Northern Ireland already, or may arrive here soon. These are known as Horizon species.

This new guide was updated this year by CEDaR Marine Data Manager Rory Wilson, and shows us not only the species we may find on our shores, but where they are found so far, and key features that can help us to identify the 34 invasive species.

For the new edition of the guide, head to Dive NI’s Recording Species page, or click the link for the Guide to Marine Invasive Non-Native Species in Northern Ireland.

If you find any of these invasive species while diving, it is key that you report the sighting. Please submit your observation to CEDaR’s online recording platform or the iRecord app.

You can also head to invasivespeciesni.co.uk, where you can also find lots more information on marine and terrestrial invasive species and information on how to control and prevent the spread of harmful non-native species. Remember, always Check, clean and dry your gear to prevent the spread!
